As a reminder, in Poland, the vacation entitlement for employees working under an employment contract is 20 or 26 days, depending on length of service. Those working under temporary employment contracts are entitled to 2 days of vacation for each month worked.
Do you know what unusual vacations employees have in other parts of the world?
Voting Leave
Many American companies offer their employees a day off to participate in elections. This type of leave is also popular in other countries where voting takes place on a weekday.
Mental Health Leave
Companies are beginning to recognize the importance of mental health, offering days off that can be used for mental recovery and rest.
Menstrual Leave
Some companies, especially in Asia, have implemented menstrual leave policies, allowing women to take days off during difficult periods of their cycle.
Volunteering Leave
Employers enable their employees to participate in charitable projects by offering additional days off for volunteering. Creative leave
Also known as “sabbatical,” it allows employees to have an extended period of free time to pursue creative projects, pursue their passions, or work on their own initiatives. This type of leave is regulated by law in countries such as the United States, Germany, and France.
Relocation leave
Companies offer additional days off so employees can organize and relocate without the added stress of having to use their regular vacation days.
Divorce leave
Some American and Australian companies offer days off to help employees navigate the difficult process of divorce and complete all the necessary paperwork.
Pet bereavement leave
Employees who have lost a four-legged friend can receive a few days off for grieving.
Travel leave
Some companies are implementing annual or six-month leaves that allow employees to travel extensively and explore the world, with the goal of preventing burnout. Companies are also now beginning to encourage workation (combining work and travel). The undoubted advantage of workation is the ability to simultaneously work and relax anywhere in the world.
These unusual vacations demonstrate that modern companies are increasingly attentive to the diverse needs of their employees, creating a friendly work environment and supporting them in various life situations.
